Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Secondary School has been established since June 20, 1958 by ศาสตราจารย์ท่านผู้หญิงพูนทรัพย์ นพวงษ์ ณ อยุธยา. The primary academic objective was to serve as a Laboratory School (LabSchool) for the professional training of students from the Faculty of Education. Every student in the Faculty of Education must gain practical teaching experience by undertaking trial teaching at Chulalongkorn University Demonstration both Primary and Secondary School) before graduating as qualified educators.

Consequently, academic affairs, particularly in curriculum development and instruction, have always been the school’s highest priority.

In the early stages, the various administrative duties were managed solely by the principal. Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School was guided by dedicated and highly knowledgeable Principals who devoted their working lives to the school, including  ศาสตราจารย์อำไพ สุจริตกุล ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.อุบล เรียงสุวรรณ.

History

In 1967, the school was formally divided into two sections: Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Primary School and Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Secondary School.

When ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.วิจิตร ศรีสอ้าน served as the Principal of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Secondary School (1967 – 1970), the school began to formally divide its operations, introducing the positions of Assistant Principal for Administration and Assistant Principal for Student Affairs. However, Academic affairs remained under the direct management of the principal, subject to the supervision of the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University.

Subsequently, when รองศาสตราจารย์อาภรณ์ ชาติบุรุษ was the Principal (1970 – 1973), the operation was clearly divided into three distinct divisions: Administration, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs. รองศาสตราจารย์มาลินี จันทวิมล was appointed to oversee Academic Affairs, making her the first faculty member at Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Secondary School, to manage academic operations, including curriculum planning, timetable scheduling, and coordinating the admission of Faculty of Education students for teaching practice (currently known as the Professional Experience Center).

During 1979 – 1983, the Ministry of Education adjusted the national curriculum to the 6:3:3 system. This change had minimal impact on Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School as the school had already piloted the curriculum. Furthermore, the school offered numerous electives, along with 6 core vocational fundamental subjects:

1. Industry
2. Commerce
3. Fine Arts
4. Agriculture
5. Craftsmanship
6. Public Health

These subjects were designed to give students freedom to choose vocational fundamentals, guided by the School Counseling Division. For instance, Science students who did not select Biology (Plan 1B) were advised to choose Industry and Craftsmanship to support university entrance in the Faculties of Engineering and Architecture. Similarly, students in the Arts-Math plan (Plan 2C) were advised to select Commerce to prepare for entrance to the Faculties of Accountancy or Economics.

Vision

The Academic Affairs, Curriculum, and Instruction Division of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Secondary School is committed to developing the curriculum and managing secondary education to achieve international standards. This is to fully develop students' potential in academic knowledge, ethical conduct, and effective learning processes. Furthermore, the Division aims to promote and support the school in becoming a center of excellence for teacher professional development and a key reference in the field of Education.

Mission

1. To develop the curriculum and manage secondary education to achieve international standards, thereby preparing students equipped with both knowledge and ethics.
2. To promote and support students in developing aesthetics in learning and utilizing learning processes as a tool to fully acquire knowledge for self-development.
3. To provide professional teacher experiences for university students, enabling them to achieve competence as leaders in the teaching profession and in society.
